In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful,
All praise is due to Allah and may peace and blessing be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, companions and true followers. To proceed:
In Kashf al-Khafa, by Al-`Ajlooni, it says the following about this hadith:
1530 – Youth is a branch of insanity and women are Satan's snare
In a narration, haba'il is the plural of hibâlah, which is that used to hunt anything. Abu Nu`aim narrated it on the authority of Ubayy ibn Mas`oud and Al-Dailami reported it on the authority of `Abd-Allah ibn `Ậmir and `Uqbah ibn `Amr in a long hadith. Al-Taimi also reported it in his book, Al-Targhib, on the authority of Zaid ibn Khalid al-Juhani. All of these chains of transmission are traceable (marfoo`) to the Prophet (saws), and it is not negated by that which has come from Sufyan al-Thawri that he said, "Oh young men, stand in prayer at night; for verily, goodness is in youth, since that is generally a time of strength and activity." Support for this hadith is found in the hadith, "Your Lord [Allah] is surprised by a young person who has no inclination to desire."
Ibn al-Gharas said that the hadith is good (hasan). He only made it [youth] a branch of insanity because insanity eliminates reason, and youth may likewise rush in with a minimal proportion of reason due to an inclination towards the desires and audacity in terms of risky behavior, as the poet said:
Inebriation is five; when a person gets intoxicated with them, he becomes the laughingstock of all time: the inebriation of avidity, youth, passion, drink and power.
As for that which is mentioned in the hadith that, "Women are Satan's snare": this means his hunting nets and traps, the singular form of which is hibâlah, and this is what is used for hunting anything. It is also said that Satan has not lost hope of any man in respect to women.
As for that which has come concerning remembrance (dhikr) and seeking help through it instead of a servant, if a woman goes to bed at night exhausted and makes mention of Allah Almighty, that will take away the pains of her labor, insha'Allah (God willing), and make her ready to be intimate with her husband with a spirit of contentment and tranquility, just as it will prepare her to meet a new day with a spirit of contentment and tranquility, by Allah's Permission. However, that will only be to the extent of stability in her soul in terms of faith in the Unseen, trust in the Promise of Allah (swt) and belief in His Prophet (saws).
We ask Allah to grant success to all and Allah Almighty is the Most High and He knows best.
